This resource, the first of its kind in the country, explores mandatory community service and its relationship to volunteering. The resource is comprised of four separate parts. Exploring the Theme is an overview that highlights central concepts connecting mandatory community service and volunteering. A Discussion
Paper takes an in-depth look at mandatory service, the evolving definition of volunteering and the importance of language. Implications for Volunteer Program Management suggests some of the modifications that should be made to volunteer management practices in order to effectively engage mandatory community service participants. And finally, Views and Opinions presents some of the current thinking on mandatory community service and is based on input from Volunteer Centres and networks across the country.
