Nation’s Oldest Brewer pours it on to support Raising the Roof
Toronto, February 5, 2008 — Today is Toque Tuesday across the country, and Molson is proud to support Raising the Roof in its efforts to break the cycle of homelessness in Canada, with more than 1,100 Molson employees selling Toques in downtown Toronto this morning.
This project comes on the heels of research that indicated Molson staff are committed to building stronger Canadian communities and are willing to put their backs into it. “Molson employees participated in 34 volunteer projects across the country in 2007, contributing approximately 4,000 volunteer hours. Today’s initiative in support of Raising the Roof kick-starts 2008 with an astounding 1,100 volunteer hours” said Kevin Boyce, Molson President and CEO. “It’s amazing the difference we can all make in our communities if we get together and volunteer, even for an hour”.
This new approach to corporate philanthropy coordinates with Molson’s national sales conference where Molson team members meet to reconnect and prepare for the coming sales season. Sales conferences are traditionally a time of team-building, but with this initiative in support of Raising the Roof, Molson is taking team-building to a new level by introducing the concept of building a team by building your community.
“Molson came to us with the idea, and through the planning process, we learned how deep the core belief in corporate giving is at Molson,” said Jennifer Parnell, Executive Director of Raising the Roof. “Organizing the logistics for 1,100 people to sell toques in downtown Toronto shows just how dedicated Molson is to helping Canadian communities.”
Community investment has been a part of the Molson tradition since 1786, a tradition that is woven into the cultural fabric of the corporation and continues to thrive today. The brewery’s founder, John Molson, wanted to give back to the people and community that gave him success and the privilege of brewing beer in this country. Molson employees hold this belief today and give back by helping charities and supporting community events throughout Canada.
